SATURDAY’S AMPHITHEATRE DEDICATION AND CONCERT POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

CARY, NC –The Town of Cary will not be holding any of this Saturday’s scheduled activities to celebrate the completion of the Amphitheater at Regency Park. The planned open house, Symphony concert, and fireworks have all been put on hold indefinitely due to the national emergency that unfolded yesterday. While officials are looking for earlier options, it could be this spring before the concert and ceremonies can take place.

"Out of respect for those who have suffered losses and not knowing exactly how circumstances may change over the next several days, we felt this was the best decision," said Town Manager Bill Coleman.

Saturday’s now canceled activities were to begin at 5:00 PM with an open house during which visitors were to get a firsthand look behind the scenes at the entire Amphitheater complex. A dedication ceremony was to follow at 7:00 PM, then the North Carolina Symphony was to give a free concert featuring the fifth "Play With the Pros" program. The evening was to close with fireworks.

"We’ll be looking for a more appropriate date for these activities and will publicize it heavily to make sure everyone who’s interested has plenty of notice to make plans to attend," said Cary’s Cultural Arts Division Director Lyman Collins.

The Amphitheater at Regency Park blends technology with nature creating a superior performing arts center in the midst of pine trees by a lake. The $12.5 million amphitheater opened in summer 2001, replacing tents under which the N.C. Symphony had performed its SummerFest concert series since 1986.
