NEW PARK DEDICATIONS SET FOR SATURDAY
CARY, NC – White Oak Park and North Cary Park will both be dedicated in special ceremonies on Saturday, November 4. The White Oak Park dedication is set for 11:00 AM while ceremonies for the new North Cary Park will be at 2:00 PM. Citizens are invited to take part in both ceremonies and learn about the amenities offered in these two new facilities.
Following the formal dedication of White Oak Park, located at 1216 Jenks Carpenter Road, the Raleigh/Cary In-Line Hockey Association will present a demonstration on the multi-purpose slab. This unique feature can be used by in-line hockey players for practice or pick-up games. At North Cary Park, the post-dedication activities will include a rock climbing demonstration on the bouldering structure and volleyball at the sand volleyball courts. North Cary Park nature trails link up with the Black Creek Greenway. Each event is expected to last 1-1˝ hours; refreshments will be provided.
The 11.8 acre White Oak Park was built at a cost of $400,000. It includes a playground, basketball court, multi-purpose slab for in-line hockey and other activities, an open play area, shelter/restroom facility, wooded picnic area and a trail connection to White Oak Creek Greenway. It was designed by OBS Landscape Architects and built by Polovich Construction.
The total project cost for the 30 acre North Cary Park is $1.9 million. It was designed by Mark Robinson & Associates and also built by Polovich Construction. Amenities include a playground, bouldering facility, four sand volleyball courts, a soccer field with T-ball overlay, shelter/restroom facility, wooded picnic areas, and an extensive trail system with connection to the Black Creek Greenway. Both parks were funded by parks and recreation bonds. North Cary Park also received a $30,000 grant from Wake County Parks and Recreation Grant-in-aid funds.
These parks are part of the overall Parks, Greenways and Bikeways Master Plan, which addresses long-term facility needs for the community. Two other facilities on this plan, the Senior Center and Green Hope Elementary School Park are expected to be finished in the next few weeks. The development of these facilities is part of the Town’s continuing effort to meeting the needs and goals set forth in the Master Plan and improving the quality of life for all its citizens. This year, Cary has budgeted more than $12 million for Parks and Recreation improvements; an additional $108 million is planned over the next 10 years.
