NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 13, 2000 THEY’RE MAD OVER MULCH IN CARY AGAIN CARY, NC – Round three of the Western Wake saga continues as the Town of Cary announces Mega Mulch Madness III--RETURN OF THE VEGI! This year, Cary will make an estimated 1600 tons of vegi-tative debris available for pick-up on Friday, November 17th and Saturday, November 18th from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The giveaway site is located next to the Cary Convenience Center (Old Public Works facility), 316 North Dixon Avenue. Town crews will load any amount of the premium wood mulch into any size truck or other vehicle FREE OF CHARGE during the Mulch Madness Giveaway. Most of the mulched debris this year comes from severe weather that hit Wake County in late August. "While we’d rather not have storms hit our area and generate the debris, Mega Mulch Madness is one of our most popular service-oriented events," said Town of Cary Public Works Director Mike Bajorek. "This is certainly an example of making the best of what was a bad situation." Making mulch out of the debris is also in keeping with Cary’s bent on environmental preservation efforts. Town officials hope that citizens will use more mulch each year, converting larger portions of their water-dependent lawns into natural areas. "Mulch holds water in soil and helps improve soil quality by providing the vegetative component lacking in our mostly clay soils," said Cary Water Conservation Specialist Jennifer Platt.
