NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 27, 2000 DOZENS TO PARTICIPATE IN
CARY’S SUPPORT CARY, NC – Civic-minded citizens will be donning vests and gloves and heading out to make their community a cleaner, more pleasant place to live and work as part of the statewide Litter Sweep effort which takes place each fall and spring. Volunteers 12 and older will assemble at the Town of Cary Operations Center, 400 James Jackson Avenue, at 8:00 AM on Saturday for registration and a short safety orientation. At that time, they will be issued gloves, vests, and orange trash bags and then be sent out to pick up litter in assigned areas along US1/64 from MacGregor to the I-40 interchange and along I-40 up to the Wade Avenue bridge. The NC Department of Transportation will collect the filled trash bags. "We’re very excited about Saturday’s event," said Cary Recycling and Solid Waste Specialist Karen Hales. "Not only will this effort enhance the appearance of the Town, but citizen volunteers also gain a sense of community pride through their collective efforts. After picking up their assigned area, volunteers will head back to the Operations Center for refreshments. Participants in Saturday’s event will receive a Certificate of Appreciation and are also eligible for prizes for the "Weirdest Litter" collected. In case of rain, the event will be cancelled. # # #
