NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 9, 2000 CELEBRATION SET FOR DILLARD DRIVE OPENING CARY, NC This Friday morning, August 11th, officials will gather at the corner of Dillard and Meeting Street, beside Centrum for refreshments, remarks, and a special ribbon cutting highlighted by a parade of weird looking Town vehicles. While the road technically opened to traffic a few weeks ago, Cary leaders are taking advantage of this opportunity to highlight their commitment to improving traffic conditions in and around the Triangle burb. "This roadway improvement will play a significant role in addressing area traffic concerns," said Town of Cary Engineering Services Manager Joe Moore, manager of the project. At just over ½ mile, the widening project cost about $1.3 million, with about $680,000 of that cost being born by the developers of the Centrum shopping center, Buckley Shuler company of Atlanta, as required by Carys Adequate Public Facility Ordinance for Roads. A portion of Dillard adjacent to the shopping center from Piney Plains Road to Meeting Street will be closed for the ribbon cutting beginning Friday around 9:00 AM and ending around 11:00 AM. Detours will be in place. This year, Cary has budgeted more than $15 million for transportation improvements including roadway widening, greenways, and bikeways.
