BRACING FOR WINTER WEATHER,
CARY ACTIVATES SNOW COMMAND

CARY, NC – With forecasters calling for nearly a foot of snow to fall overnight in the Triangle, Town of Cary Public Works & Utilities staff have been asked to report by 9:00 PM to work all night and into tomorrow at the Town’s Operations Center on James Jackson Road--Cary’s Snow Command.

To keep the reputation earned last year of the "Best Cleared Roads in the Triangle", Cary has called in the same 10 snow plow contractors from Michigan—expected in Cary tomorrow afternoon-- that were so fantastic in last year’s blizzard as well as arranging for a dozen private road graders from Garner—expected around 6:00 PM tonight. All this is in addition to the Town of Cary’s own sand and salt crews who are ready to go tonight if roadways become as treacherous as predicted.

"We had a lot of practice with this last year," said Cary’s Public Works Director Mike Bajorek. Bajorek said that the extra road graders will be used to plow major roadways while the plows will, as they did last year, help to penetrate subdivisions. "We’re taking the snow predictions very seriously and moving quickly to have everything in place."

Tonight, Cary crews will likely begin to sand and salt bridges and overpasses. Plows and graders will begin their work when the snow begins to fall and continue until the roadways are clear.

A decision on tomorrow’s night’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony and Page Walker Heritage Open House will be made as soon as possible.

The Town of Cary’s Snow Info web section will be updated regularly with the latest news, weather, closings, and coping information. Visit FAQ/INDEX at www.townofcary.org.

And as always, PLEASE DO NOT CALL 9-1-1 UNLESS YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY POSING AN IMMEDIATE THREAT TO LIFE, HEALTH, OR PROPERTY.

The next update will be issued around 9:30 PM unless changing conditions warrant sooner action.
