TRIANGLE AGENCIES COME TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE
NATIONAL RECYCLING

CARY, NC – A series of free, local events are slated to help area citizens become more aware and involved in recycling as the Triangle celebrates America Recycles Day throughout November. Triangle partners in this effort include the Town of Cary, Wake County, the City of Raleigh, NC State University, NC Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance and NC Box, Inc.

This Saturday at a booth in front of Dillard’s at the Cary Towne Center, citizens can learn more about recycling items as well as the importance of supporting the recycling food chain by choosing products made from recycled materials. Once again, visitors to the booth may also complete an America Recycles Day pledge card that makes them eligible to win either the American Dream House--a 3-bedroom home built primarily with recycled content materials and valued at more than $200,000—or a trip to the Walt Disney World. The America Recycles Day pledge card states that the signer will: buy more recycled-content products and increase recycling efforts at home and work. Winners will be chosen December 15, 2000, from a national random drawing.

The Wake County Solid Waste Management Division is holding a Recycled Product Vendor Fair at the Wake County Office Building downtown on Tuesday, November 14, 2000, from 11AM-2PM. This event will allow consumers to see various products that are made with recycled material, register to win recycled content products, and to sign an ARD pledge card. Food will be provided courtesy of NC Box, Inc.

On Wednesday, November 15, NC State University plans to hold a pledge drive on the brickyard, and the Wake County Construction and Demolition Task Group is holding a Green Building/Recycled Product Vendor Fair.

The goal of America Recycles Day is to increase the purchase of recycled content products and recycling so that resources will be conserved for future generations. Thousands of recycled content products are available today, including shirts and plastic "lumber" made from recycled plastic bottles, boxes, magnets, pencils and displays made from cardboard or newspaper, and soaker hoses, track surfaces, and doormats made from recycled tires.
