ADDITIONAL ENGINES EQUAL INCREASED FIRE SAFETY IN CARY
CARY, NC -- The Town of Cary has increased public safety with the addition of two new fire engines. Each of the 1997 Class A Pierce pumpers carries a crew of four and can distribute 1250 gallons of water per minute. Total cost of the two vehicles is $587,560.
"The acquisition of these pumpers is an important part of our effort to provide the highest level of protection for our community," said Cary Fire Chief Wayne House. "While not everyone is touched directly by fire, having this type of equipment helps give all of Carys residents a good insurance rating for their homes and their businesses."
One of the new pumpers will be housed at Station 2 and used to replace a 1971 pumper. The other pumper will be temporarily housed at Station 3 until Station 6 on Carpenter Road is completed. "Weve placed the Station 6 pumper into service at Station 3 for shake-down runs during the 12-month warranty period," said House. Station 6 is slated to begin operations in 1999.
This brings to five the total number of pumpers in service in Cary, one for each station. In addition to the pumpers, Cary Fire also has two service trucks, one rescue truck, and one ladder truck in regular service.
Many of these vehicles will be on display during the Cary Fire Departments 75th Anniversary Celebration on October 11, 1997.
