TOWN, STAFF RECOGNIZED FOR ENVIRONMENTAL WORK

CARY -- The Town of Cary and one staff member have been recognized by the Environmental Educators of North Carolina, a statewide, non-profit professional association which recognizes educational efforts that promote environmentally responsible decision-making and action.

The Town was named "Outstanding Environmental Organization" for accomplishments associated with the Stevens Nature Center and Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve. Parks/Recreation/Cultural Resources staff member Laura White, who works at Hemlock Bluffs, received the Outstanding Service Award for her work as an officer with the EENC.

"We’re very proud of these honors," said Town Manager Bill Coleman. "Our staff works very hard to find innovative ways to incorporate environmental education and preservation in the course of their daily work," he added.

Both awards were announced at the EENC’s annual meeting, held this year in Raleigh on September 27th. Cary Town Council gave their own recognition at last night’s regular meeting at Town Hall.

PRIMARY CONTACTS: Mary Barry, PRCR Director, 469-4066
