CARY TO OPEN
COMPOST EDUCATION CENTER
CARY, NC -- The Town of Cary will host the grand opening of its new compost education center this Saturday, November 15, from 10:00 a.m.-noon. The Bond Park Compost Education Center is an outdoor learning center with a self-guided trail that demonstrates composting techniques as well as highlights the benefits of composting. Along with site tours, demonstrations, and a ribbon-cutting, free compost bins will be given to the first 125 citizens who arrive at the grand opening.
"Were very proud of this project," said Cary Town Recycling Coordinator Wendy Worley. "This is a wonderful facility which will help people of all ages and backgrounds understand the importance of recycling in general and composting in particular." Worley noted that finished compost not only reduces waste and enriches the soil, it also saves water.
The Bond Park Compost Education Center kick-off is being held in conjunction with America Recycles Day, also November 15th. In addition to the centers opening, citizens can join the national recycling celebration to support recycling efforts and possibly win a new home in the process.
"By pledging to buy recycled products, recycle more, or compost at home, citizens can become eligible to win state and national prizes, including a brand-new, three bedroom, two-and-a-half bath American Green Dream home, built using recycled materials," said Worley.
Details about the contest and pledge cards will be available at the compost center as well as at most Town facilities. All entries must be returned to the Town of Cary by November 21, 1997. Citizens can also pledge via the internet at <www.americarecyclesday.com>.
