Drip Irrigation
Drip irrigation is also known as low-flow, micro, and measured application of water through devices
called emitters. It saves water because it gets water to the plant's root so less water is lost due
to runoff or evaporation. Installing drip irrigation systems in areas without grass can greatly
increase water use efficiency. Drip irrigation can be installed in shrub and flower beds, vegetable
gardens and potted plants. In the picture on this page, you can see a drip irrigation system installed
in a flower bed.
Drip irrigation should not be operated from the same valve as spray or rotor heads. Drip irrigation does require its own valve, a pressure reducer and a filter to protect drip emitters. Soaker hoses are another type of drip irrigation. They can be used around trees, shrubs, flowers, garden areas and small narrow strips of grass. |
