Appliances/White
Goods
Refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, dryers and similar appliances are
considered to be "white goods." These items can be picked up curbside
for a fee. Call (919) 469-4090 to schedule a pickup.
White goods can also be dropped off at the Cary Citizen Convenience Center
for $9 hauling fee, or taken to the Wake
County Multi-Material Facility
at no charge.
Bulky
Trash
This is considered as items inappropriate to place in the garbage truck
for compacting. Examples of the most common bulky trash items are
televisions, furniture, gas grills, wheel barrows, bicycles, mattresses and box springs. The Town of Cary will come and pick up these items at your home
for a fee. The fee is $11 for the first item picked up curbside and $7 for each additional item gathered during the same trip. (For example, the costs are $18 for two items or $25 for three items.) You can also
dispose of these items at the Citizen's
Convenience Center at no charge.
Dead
animals
Dead animals are accepted for disposal at either the North Wake (9004
Deponie Dr., Raleigh) or Feltonsville Sanitary (6000 Old Smithfield Road,
Apex) Landfills so long as they are not microbiological or pathological
waste. Town crews will pickup animal carcasses found in the street or
on the curbside in a plastic bag. Call the Department of Public Works
and Utilities at (919) 469-4090 to request collection.

Household
Garbage Guidelines
Household garbage is waste from interior household receptacles. It typically
includes food scraps and other solid waste from food preparation. Household
garbage should be contained in
in your Town-provided rollout cart. Please seal garbage in plastic bags. Do not mix yard waste with garbage.
Be sure that ashes are fully extinguished before disposing. Medical waste/syringes
should be properly contained before disposal by placing in a puncture-proof
plastic bottle, coffee can, etc.
Inclement Weather
(snowstorms, ice storms, hurricanes, etc.)
Carts should be rolled to the curb as usual after snowstorms, ice storms, hurricanes or other weather emergencies. If you have questions, call (919) 469-4090.
Paint
Disposal
Latex paint can be properly disposed of by following these guidelines: If there is less than 2 inches left, dry it out by setting in the sun for several hours. Paint must be completely dry in order to call the Department of Public Works and Utilities at (919) 469-4090 to request collection. The can must be set out at the curb by 7 a.m. and the lid must be off. Paint that is completely dry can also be dropped off at the Citizen Convenience Center located at 313 N. Dixon Ave. If you have more than 2 inches of paint, please properly dispose of it as household hazardous waste.
Oil-based paint is considered household hazardous waste and is not collected or accepted at the Citizen Convenience Center.
Yard
Waste Collection
Yard waste is collected on
your regular garbage collection day, unless there is
a holiday scheduled during the week.You can also dispose of yard waste at the Citizen's Convenience Center located at 313 N. Dixon Ave. Yard waste consists of vegetative
matter collected as a result of landscaping. All soil must be removed.
Examples of yard waste include grass clippings, brush, leaves and limbs.
Limbs should be no longer than 4 feet or larger than 4 inches in diameter.
The maximum volume of curbside yard waste for regular collection at each
home on one day cannot exceed 240 cubic feet (8 feet long by 5 feet wide
by 6 feet). Two men must be able to load it into the truck within 10 minutes.
Yard waste should be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day in reusable containers, paper bags, or securely tied bundles. Yard waste contained
in plastic bags will not be collected.
