For All Water Customers
Single-Family Homes without Irrigation Systems
Apartments, Townhouses & Condominiums with Individual Water Meters
-
Schedule for Installation
Existing homes - Installation occurs when the water meter outside is replaced. Meter replacement typically occurs every 10 years or 1 million gallons. The Town will hire contractors for installation, which requires cutting off water for about two hours. Homeowners receive four notices about when the work will occur (six months, three months, five to seven days, and two days in advance).
New homes - Installation is required as part of construction.
-
Expense to Property Owner
There is no charge for back flow prevention assembly. However, the Town recommends that water customers protect their pipes against pressure buildup by having a licensed plumber install an expansion tank on the hot water heater or a toilet. Cost estimates are $35 - $40 for materials only and about $125 with installation. The Town will provide the required plumbing permit and inspection at no charge.
-
Responsibilities Afterward
No annual testing required is required.
