Seal of the Commission for Accreditation for Parks and Recreation Agencies Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department has been nationally accredited since 2002 and is a designated North Carolina Fit Community.

It is the mission of the Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department to serve, educate, and enhance life for the citizens of Cary. Our professional staff plans and provides a variety of enjoyable and cost effective recreation, sports, environmental, historical, and cultural arts programs and services. We acquire, develop, beautify, conserve, and maintain a system of parks, greenways, and recreation facilities which will assure quality leisure opportunities for all Cary residents.

Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is made up of the following four divisions:

The Administration Division coordinates the work of all the Department’s divisions, which include Athletics, Cultural Arts, and Recreation Programs. The primary areas of responsibility include office management, special projects, parks, greenway and open space planning, capital projects administration, customer service/staff training, marketing and supervision of all divisions.

Athletics Division

The Athletics Division is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising diverse youth and adult programs and special events. This division offers the youth and adults of Cary well-structured, supervised and enjoyable athletic league programs. We stress participation for the promotion of physical and mental well being. These programs are designed to provide a competitive recreation opportunity that promotes fitness and well being to the participants through team and individual league play. Adults can participate in softball, basketball, tennis, and volleyball. The goals of the program include participation, sportsmanship and fun. Youth can benefit from league play in baseball, softball, and basketball as well as a variety of sports camps /clinics in volleyball, baseball, golf, softball, tennis, and basketball.

Special Events
Athletic special events provide a unique and diverse participation opportunity for local, state and national competitors. These events promote a positive economic impact on the community. Some special events offer a higher level of competition with advancement to other state and national competitions. These events also provide spectator opportunities for the citizens as well as surrounding communities.

The Cultural Arts Division encompasses the Jordan Hall Arts Center , the Page-Walker Arts & History Center , and special events, performances and festivals. As a division, through our programs and activities we encourage you to discover the wealth of cultural opportunities available to Cary's citizens. Our classes offer you the opportunity to explore your creativity; our festivals and events bring our community together for shared experiences; our work with cultural groups showcases the Cary community's talents.

The Recreation Programs Division provides a wide range of programs for all ages. Recreational programs, both indoor and outdoor, are offered at Bond Park, Bond Park Community Center, Herbert C. Young Community Center Middle Creek Community Center and the Cary Senior Center. The Stevens Nature Center provides environmental education programs in ecology, environmental stewardship, preservation and nature appreciation. Summer camps enhance the quality of life for youth by providing a variety of leisure activities and opportunities for personal development. Teen Scene provides diverse events, programs, projects and social and cultural activities designed for teens to develop leadership, maturity and community involvement.

In addition to our program offerings, we provide Cary citizens the opportunity to rent facilities for group functions, such as picnics, meetings, and other social occasions.


Facilities/Parks/Greenways

Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources provides both passive and active recreational opportunities. Frequently Asked Questions

Ballfield Rental
Reservations are accepted beginning on the Monday prior to the desired rental date. All reservations must be made in person at the Administrative office, Town Hall Bldg. B. Reservations may be made for the months of April - October. Call (919) 469-4062 for more information.  For general information, please see the Facility Reservation section of the Program Brochure.

Boat Rental
Bond Park provides pedal boats, fishing boats, canoes and sailboats for rent. One person 16 or older must be aboard rented boats at all times. For fees and the boathouse schedule, call (919) 469-4100.

Concerts
Page-Walker Arts & History Center hosts the Friends of the Page-Walker Concert Series and the Starlight Concert Series; the North Carolina Symphony's Summerfest Concert Series are held at The Amphitheatre at Regency Park; and concerts are held throughout the year at Bond Park.

Facility/Shelter Reservations
The Page-Walker Arts & History Center, Herbert C. Young,  Middle Creek, and Bond Park Community Centers have rooms available for reservation by Cary residents and nonresidents. Reservation periods vary among facilities and depending on residency.  For additional reservation information, please see the Facility Reservation section of the Program Brochure.  Call the Herbert C. Young Community Center at (919) 460-4965, the Bond Park Community Center at (919) 462-3970, and the Page-Walker Arts & History Center at (919) 460-4963 for rental rates, alcohol policies and equipment rental.

The Sertoma Amphitheatre, located at Bond Park, accommodates 350 spectators for outdoor performances. Reservations are available for Cary residents only. For additional rental information, call the Herbert C. Young Community Center at (919) 460-4965 or the Bond Park Community Center at (919) 462-3970.

Picnic shelter reservations are available on a first come, first use basis or may be reserved for any date from April through October. Fees vary by shelter.  For additional rental information, please refer to the Facility Reservation section of the Program Brochure or call one of the Community Centers - the Herbert C. Young Community Center at (919) 460-4965, Bond Park Community Center at (919) 462-3970 or Middle Creek Community Center at (919) 771-1295.


Greenways

Since 1980, the Town of Cary has been building greenways and is continuing to develop its greenway network.  What are greenways?  A greenway is a linear parcel of land set aside to preserve open space.  Greenways are an environmental, economic and recreation resource for all to enjoy.  Cary has approximately 20 miles of greenways and trails within our parks system.  For more information, see the

Lazy-Spring Daze Applications
Applications to exhibit in the Spring Daze and Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festivals are available in January. Applications for Spring Daze must be postmarked by February 15 and applications for Lazy Daze must be postmarked by April 15. **Spring Daze is only open to Cary & Wake County residents on a first come, first serve basis.  To have an application mailed to you, call (919) 469-4061.

Senior Citizen Programs
The
Cary Senior Center serves all citizens ages 55 and older. A variety of programs are offered in the areas of fitness, dance, arts, computers, history, health & wellness, and more.  Call (919) 469-4081 for more information.

Sports
A variety of athletic programs including special events are offered through the Athletic Division at various sites in Cary for youth and adults.

Teen Activities
Teen Scene is the place to be for fun things to do in Cary.  There are more programs than ever for Cary teens.  Check out the Teen Scene brochure to get the scoop on fitness, art, music, leadership, and dance programs.

Teen Council

Tennis Courts
Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources maintains 25 tennis courts. Lighted tennis courts are available at Dunham Park, Annie Jones Park, Cary Tennis Park and Godbold Park. For location of tennis courts at various park sites and court reservation information, call (919) 469-4062.

Volunteer Opportunities
Cary Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources relies heavily on volunteers. Without volunteers many events, programs, and services would not be as successful or may not even happen. Our department offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. Just to name a few:

While volunteers are appreciated 365 days of the year, we formally recognize volunteers on two occasions.

Annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet
Formal awards banquet held in February.

The public has an opportunity to nominate deserving persons who have volunteered with the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department for various awards.
