Applause! Cary Youth Theatre

Applause! Cary Youth Theatre offers process-oriented theatre classes, camps and workshops staffed by professional actors, designers, directors and teachers. Our goal is to inspire confidence and creativity in young theatre enthusiasts while encouraging the exploration and development of both skill and interest. En Garde! An Introduction to Theatrical Swordfighting (age 10-13)

This introductory workshop will explore the fundamental techniques, history and safety of swordfighting and combat for stage and screen. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Practice weapons will be provided.

Musical Theatre Touring Troupe (age 13-18)

Strengthen vocal energy, choreography and stage presence as we rehearse solos, duets and group numbers for performance at various venues! Participants will receive a detailed schedule at first class.

Celebrate the USA with a program of patriotic favorites from Broadway and beyond! We’ll perform at the Town of Cary Independence Day festivities and the 31st annual Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival.

Guitar, Beginning (age 12 & up)

This course is for the serious beginner. Playing the guitar is fun and relaxing. You’ll learn how to accompany yourself, play scales, and melodies, read music and play some songs by ear. A continuation of the beginner course. Also open to those who know some chords and songs. Each session combines learning of new songs with exercises in rhythm, melody, harmony, listening, and teaches form, expression, and timbre. Also introduces advanced chords and playing styles. World Hand Drumming for Adults

This introductory class covers basic drumming technique for congas, frame drums, Udus and djembes. The class includes identifying a variety of drums and percussion instruments by cultural roots, playing drums of various types, learning culturally specific multi-part rhythms from Africa and the Caribbean, and playing in an ensemble format. Rentable drums are available for a $5 fee.

World Hand Drumming for Youth

Kids’ beginner Afro-Caribbean drumming classes focus on learning proper drumming technique, hone listening and focusing skills. Children are introduced to basic concepts in rhythmic structure in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere where all participants succeed. Rentable drums available for $5 fee.

Piano, Beginning (age 7-11)

Introduction to the wonderful magic of piano playing in an enthusiastic small group setting. Learn basics, including notes, rhythms, chords, ear training and simple songs, through fun activities and games while developing a strong music foundation. Instructor is a college grad with 20 years experience in group and private instruction. An $8 course book fee will be collected by the instructor at the first class.

Duplicate Bridge

Tuesdays and Thursdays are bridge days at the Middle Creek Community Center. Developed with the new player in mind, our Tuesday bridge program focuses more on instruction. Our Thursday games are ACBL-sanctioned and are limited to players with fewer than 1000 master points. Not sure just where you fit in? Our friendly instructor will be happy to speak with you about the program. Just give him a call.
