Kwanzaa is a community cultural celebration that highlights African-American heritage and family through seven values - unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Reconnection and Recommitment." The celebration includes fun for the whole family, including ethnic foods, a vendor market and craft activities for children. This year’s keynote speaker is Bernard Alonzo Bowen Sr. Bowen was a standout prep school athlete in basketball, football and baseball. He has coached, refereed, and coordinator a number of athletic endeavors over the past 35 years, including the Holcomb Rucker Tournament, which is the oldest street-ball basketball tournament in the world. Performances will include Charles (Wsir) Johnson and his unique blend of African drumming and storytelling, the wonderful duet of Salima Thomas and Clint Wilson, models from European Modeling & Fashion Institute, the hilarious comedy of Pat Lambe, amazing African dancing performed by Collage Dance Group and the Third Rail Band.
