CONCERT INFORMATION
Penn Masala
Saturday, October 18
www.pennmasala.com
Penn Masala is back by popular demand! They made their first appearance in Cary at the annual Diwali Celebration. After wowing the audience and receiving several requests for their return, they are back! Penn Masala is the world's first Hindi a cappella group, formed in 1996 by students at the University of Pennsylvania. This defining characteristic of the group brought it immediate attention as members fused South Asian music with a Western musical style in original song formats. After breakthrough performances in the late nineties, the group took the nation by storm and went on to perform for sold-out crowds in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and Houston. Over the last decade, Penn Masala has spread the popularity of Hindi a cappella music abroad by performing in London, Toronto and India. In addition to their extensive tour schedule, Penn Masala has been featured in the soundtrack of American Desi and has released five full-length albums.

Saturday, January 10
www.fiskjubileesingers.org
The Fisk Jubilee Singers are young men and women, vocal artists and students of Fisk University. The original Jubilee Singers introduced ‘slave songs’ to the world in 1871 and were instrumental in preserving this unique American musical tradition known today as Negro spirituals. They broke racial barriers in the US and abroad in the late 19th century. On October 30, 2000, the Fisk Jubilee Singers were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Their recent recording In Bright Mansions won a Dove Award and received a Grammy nomination. The Fisk Jubilee Singers continue the tradition of singing the Negro spirituals around the world, allowing the ensemble to share this rich culture globally while preserving this unique music.
War Bonds: Songs & Letters from WWII
Friday, February 13
www.EbzB.org
Kick off your Valentine’s Day weekend with the heartwarming musical, War Bonds: The Songs and Letters of World War II. Award-winning artists David zum Brunnen and Serena Ebhardt fill the stage with wartime memories and tunes. Actual veterans’ stories create a sentimental journey through the days when blackouts and rationing were a small sacrifice in order to obtain freedom--a time when Rosie the Riveter discovered she could take care of herself; a time when African-Americans, who were segregated at home, integrated abroad to became heroes; and when a man's only wish was to be home for Christmas. Though this "greatest generation" is diminishing in ranks every day, this show helps us remember and celebrate the sacrifice they made to keep us free.
