Summary information about this benefit

Who administers this benefit? What type of policies are offered?
  • Interest-sensitive whole life insurance can be used to help you meet long-term financial goals. It can build cash value on a tax-deferred basis that you can borrow or withdraw from it as necessary. The premiums are guaranteed to remain the same as long as the premiums are paid. Whole life insurance can also provide the perfect complement to any payroll-deducted term life insurance you may already have. As an added bonus, grandparents are able to purchase this policy for their grandchildren. This policy also comes with a long-term care rider. Everyone 40 and older should begin planning for their long-term care needs in their later years of life and this rider is a great and affordable way to start.
  • Specified critical illness insurance pays a lump sum benefit up to 100% of the face amount if you or a covered family member is diagnosed with a covered critical illness including heart attack, stroke, cancer, major organ transplant, permanent paralysis, end-stage renal failure and coronary bypass surgery. The benefit can be used any way you choose, and you don’t have to be disabled or terminally ill to receive benefits.
  • Accident insurance is designed to help you meet those out-of-pocket expenses and extra bills that can follow even ordinary accidents. In addition to providing coverage for more than 20 types of injuries, your base policy is guaranteed renewable for life as long as premiums are paid on time. Some employees currently have a payroll-deducted accident policy which they may keep on a direct bill basis or consider switching to the new policy with UnumProvident which will be payroll-deducted.
How does an employee enroll in these policies?
  • Coverage is voluntary so you decide whether or not to purchase the insurance. If you do, the premiums will be deducted from your paycheck. You are the owner of the policy, so you may keep it even if you leave Town employment or retire. Annual enrollment is in April of each year. You can apply for coverage at work with a benefits representative that will be on-site to explain the policy to you in detail and assist you in the enrollment process. Because everyone has different needs and questions, these enrollment meetings are one-on-one in a private setting.
