Web Use Report November 2002 

This is the ninth of bimonthly reports on Web use statistics for townofcary.org. The first report was in July 2001.

1. Summary of Activity

Web site activity during November 2002 was lower than in recent reporting months but higher than last year and early 2002. The average number of page requests per day was 12 percent lower than in September 2002. Activity during the last seven days of November was down significantly from the remainder of the month, an indication that the Thanksgiving "four-day weekend" was a factor.

Seasonal programming and job recruitment timing may partly explain fluctuations in Web site activity.

Visits to the Job Opportunities page were more than 3,600 higher in September than in November 2002, a difference of more than 25 percent. Job Opportunities page visits in November were 29 percent lower than in July 2002. Hits on the Employment index page were down by nearly 2,800 in November compared to September, a 36 percent drop.

The Town conducted firefighter recruitment from Aug. 1 until Sept. 4 and had anticipated beginning recruitment in July. Such recruitment typically attracts a significant amount of interest. Human Resources reported that the job openings overall have been fewer during the past month.

Various Web pages for Amphitheatre at Regency Park (season runs May through October) totaled more than 8,800 hits during September 2002 compared to only 325 in November. Hits on the Recreation index page and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources home page were also higher in September than in November (a combined 8,853 versus 7,141).

On the other hand, hits on the various pages of the new Land Development Ordinance section totaled more than 7,100 during November, including 2,329 to the introductory page.

October/November - 55 feedback messages by e-mail, most of which do not relate specifically to the Web site. Those regarding the Web site included a criticism that home page design was too flashy, a suggestion that the Web site have more pictures of Cary, a request for e-mail links in the employee directory, and notice of a typographical error on the greenways page (corrected).
