Web Use Report May 2003

This is the 12th of bimonthly reports on Web use statistics for townofcary.org. The first report was in July 2001.

I. Summary of Activity

Web site activity during May 2003 was by far the heaviest of any month tracked thus far. The daily average of 12,941 requests for pages was 35 percent greater than the previous high of 9,553 in March 2003. As usual, Job Opportunities was the most visited page.

The Current Agenda page for Town Council meetings was the second most visited page, which is highly unusual if not unprecedented. The Current Agenda page received 10,000 more "hits" in May than in March. The Agenda second tier page had 8,000 more visits in May than in March.
The Town clerk cited heavy interest in the Lowe's rezoning and, to a lesser extent, the Land Development Ordinance, as apparent explanations.

In March, the biggest surprise was Doing Business second tier as the second most visited page. In May, this page was among the top seven pages. The main variable in this section is Town Business Opportunities, which has bid and proposal requests.

Recreation pages continue to be heavily visited in a variety of areas. Athletic program pages account for some of the increase in Web traffic. Two pages for men's church league softball were among the five most visited on townofcary.org during May. Several youth baseball pages were also visited frequently.

No single Web page or event accounts for the bulk of increase in average daily traffic. The number of pages receiving at least 500 total visits increased from 58 in March to 67 in May.

(Note: This report does not include usage on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31.)
