Town of Cary 2001-2002 Local Development Funds for Education

Progress Report
April 8, 2002

In January, 45 schools received local development funds for education from the Town of Cary for the 2001-2002 school year. As of April 8, all schools have either purchased materials, supplies, equipment and/or services as outlined in their approved proposals, or, in the case of two schools, encumbered funds for summer staff development activities.

A schedule of visitation to 31 schools was developed and sent out in March by Sue King, project consultant. To date, Sue has visited five schools. She will visit 12 more this month and 14 in May. The purpose of her visits is to discuss the impact these funds are having on student achievement, to verify how funds were spent, and to view the use of materials, supplies, equipment and/or services purchased with these funds. (School Visitation Schedule attached.)

All schools have been asked to submit a report by June 28, 2002 evaluating the impact the Town of Cary funds have had on the specific school improvement strategies and/or action steps outlined in their proposals. Evaluation evidence will include test scores, survey results, sample lesson plans, and anecdotal data.
