Town Center Area Plan Holds Open House The Town of Cary invites you to view its long-range master plan for downtown Cary, containing a vision and recommendations for future land uses, transportation, parks, housing and community appearance. Following an initial Community Kick Off Meeting in December 1998, Town staff have worked with a 12-member Citizens Advisory Committee to develop a plan based on community goals for downtown. Please join us on either of the following days to view the plans, illustrations and hear a brief presentation: Tuesday, October 24th from 3:00-8:00PM, at the Cary Community Center, 404 N. Academy St., or Thursday, November 2nd from 3:00-8:00PM, First Baptist Church, 218 S. Academy Street. Presentations will be given at 3:00, 5:30 and 7:00PM. Call Gordon Sutherland at 460-4983 with questions.
Ten Great Ways to Celebrate America Recycles Day To pledge online, visit www.americarecyclesday.org. All pledges received by November 20th will be entered into a random drawing for the "American Green Dream House," a brand, new three-bedroom, 2-1/2 bath home built with recycled materials. Youth prizes are a trip for four to Walt Disney World, 25 remanufactured computers for the winner's school along with a computer for the winner. All prizes will be awarded on December 15th, 2000. For questions about the Town of Cary's recycling program, contact Karen Hales at 462-3873. For Our Children's Future…Buy Recycled Today The average American throws away more than four pounds of garbage a day, which adds up to about 200 million tons of waste a year. Recycling saves energy, natural resources and landfill space. To keep recycling working, we need to buy products made from the materials we have already recycled.

Indoor Water Conservation Tip: If a water pipe were to burst in your home, would you be able to find the master shutoff valve? You could experience flooding and property damage, not to mention waste a tremendous amount of water. Locate the valve, mark it for quick identification, and be sure everyone in the family knows how to operate it. Outdoor Water Conservation Tip: If you have an automatic irrigation system, now is the time to winterize it. First drain water from your system to prevent frozen water from cracking the lines and heads. Then, either remove or insulate the backflow preventer and other exposed pipes. Recycling
