Spring Daze is here again

Springtime has arrived, and everyone is invited to celebrate the season at the 15th Annual Spring Daze Arts and Crafts Festival on Sat., Apr. 26, 2008 at Bond Park, 801 High House Road, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Mariachi Band will kick off festivities at 9 a.m., and the fun continues with Jazz Pianist Joe Cea, “Who’s Your Daddy: Sassy Brassy Jazz Band” and the Water Callers, to name a few entertainers!

New this year, kids can help create a sculptural arrangement using Japanese art techniques or participate in a recycling activity using their own plastic bottles. The Woodland Wonderland at Rex Children’s Healthcare Village will also offer an opportunity to make unique crafts.

Just like previous years, festival goers of all ages are welcomed to enjoy displays by local artists, civic organizations and food vendors.

Looking for convenient ways to get to the festival? Park at Town Hall and ride a free shuttle from the Parking Deck or catch C-Tran’s East-West route from the Train Depot on Academy Street to and from the festival free of charge. Walk to the festival using the Town’s Oxxford Hunt, White Oak or Black Creek greenways. Festival goers needing special assistance can ride C-Tran or park in designated spaces at the Park. For more, call (919) 469-4061.

Click on wink before you go

Before you hop in the car to go home or to work, visit the new wink-Cary Traffic Info Web site now available at wink.townofcary.org. wink web provides real-time information on traffic conditions in Cary 24 hours a day, making your travel experience more predictable.

By choosing from six icons, you can easily view descriptions and durations of incidents, construction, special events, traffic cameras, traffic flows and DMS (dynamic message signs). And if you’re in a hurry, an alerts bar at the top of the site displays timely traffic alerts.

wink web and wink tv are part of the Town’s Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), which includes 23 traffic cameras, 80 miles of fiber optic cable, 150 state-of-the-art traffic signal controllers to help shorten commute times, and 12 dynamic message signs to warn motorists of accidents or congested areas.

Alternate day watering returns

After five months under a Town-wide irrigation ban, Cary water customers can return to year-round alternate day watering. Thanks to heavy February rains, the Town’s conservation culture, and the Corps of Engineers’ wise management of Jordan Lake, water levels at Jordan Lake are above normal.

Under the ADW schedule, customers can once again water outdoors using automated devices such as irrigation systems and sprinklers three days a week depending on the property’s street address.

Properties with odd number street addresses can be irrigated only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Even number addresses may be watered only on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. No outdoor automated watering is allowed on Mondays. Hand-watering and outdoor washing of any kind are allowed any day of the week.

  • Thinking about hosting a yard sale this spring? Before you start, remember that one sign is allowed where the yard sale is located and one additional sign on a different private property. In addition, never post signs on light poles, trees, traffic signals, medians, street corners or in ditches or intersections (public rights-of-way). Signs can only be put out on Friday after 5 p.m. and should be removed by 8 a.m. on Monday. For more, call us at (919) 469-4082.
