The Cary Police Department gathers information during crime prevention, intervention and investigation. The Records Team processes it using a computer software program called Chiefs.

Records staff responsibilities include data entry of warrants and subpoenas, crime analysis report preparation, submission of statistics to the State Bureau of Investigation and for the federal Uniform Crime Report (UCR), and ensuring the department maintains its accredited status.

Obtaining Copies of Police Reports and Accident Reports

In Person:

Cary Police Department

Monday through Friday - 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

By Mail or Fax:

  • If you have the report number - call (919) 460-4902
    This automated report request line is checked weekdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • If you do not have the report number - call (919) 469-4021
    A Records clerk will assist you in locating the report.
The Records Team usually receives incident and accident reports within 24-48 hours after officers file them. There is no charge for reports.
