Permits

The Cary Fire Department issues permits per Section 105 of the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code (IFC).  The fees associated with these permits may vary dependent upon the hazards present. The hazards and fees are as follows:

Burning Permits

Open burning is prohibited within the jurisdiction of the Town of Cary unless prior approval and a burning permit have been issued by the Cary Fire Department. Burning permits are only issued for site development and a pit and air curtain must be utilized with a distance requirement of 1,000 feet to the nearest structure. This fire may generally be started between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and no combustible material may be added to the fire between 3 p.m. of one day and 9 a.m. of the following day.
Burning permits are typically issued from 7:30-9 a.m. and from 4-5 p.m. Monday – Friday. The fee for a 30-day burn permit is $100. For further information, contact the Risk Management Division at (919) 469-4057.

Explosives, Blasting Agents, Fireworks, & Ammunition

To manufacture, possess, store, sell, transport, or use explosive materials within the Town of Cary jurisdiction is prohibited unless prior approval and a permit have been issued by the Cary Fire Department. This permit is typically issued from 7:30-9 a.m. and from 4-5 p.m. Monday – Friday. The fee for a 30-day explosive permit is $100. Underground Tank Installation & Removal

Underground tank installation and removal is prohibited within the jurisdiction of the Town of Cary unless prior approval and a permit have been issued by the Cary Fire Department. The permit fee is $100 and is typically issued from 7:30-9 a.m. and from 4-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For further information, contact the Risk Management Division at 469-4057.

Fire Hydrant Flow Test

A Fire Hydrant Flow Test within the Town of Cary jurisdiction can be obtained by contacting 469-4057 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The charge for the flow test is $250 and the test can typically be completed within three business days.
