  • Firefighter Qualifications

    You must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Firefighter Work Schedule

    We work a 53 hour work week consisting of three rotating 24.5 hour work days.

  • Fire Department Call Volume

    We average 11 calls per day/300 per month/4,000 per year.

  • Fire Department Staff-Resources

    We have six stations, six engine companies, three truck companies, two ladder companies and two rescue companies.

    Administration employs one fire chief, one deputy fire chief, one safety/training division chief, one training captain, two full time secretaries, one part time secretary and the bulk water technician.

    Suppression is comprised of 180 full time personnel and seven part time personnel. When fully staffed, each shift has two division chiefs, eight captains, four lieutenants, 12 engineers, 10 master firefighters and 23 firefighters.

    Currently, the Risk Management Division employs a Division Chief, a Deputy Fire Marshal, three Fire Inspectors, and a Public Fire Educator/Inspector.

  • Fire Hazard Reporting-Fire Inspection Requests

    Contact the Fire Risk Management Division at 469-4365.

  • Burning, Outdoor

    Any outdoor burning requires a permit issued by the Cary Fire Department Risk Management Division. Please contact them at 469-4057 for information.

  • Fire Department Tours

    You may arrange a tour of a fire station. Contact the Administration office at 469-4056 for the phone number of the nearest fire station.

  • Fire Insurance Class Rating

    Cary is a Class Three Fire Department, which means that all homes within the Town Limits of Cary are within 5 miles of a fire station and within 500 feet of a fire hydrant.
