Overview
The Town of Cary maintains a network of approximately 626 miles of water lines, or mains. Several in the older areas of Cary do not meet current design standards and have substantially deteriorated. The Town is upgrading these areas with new water lines capable of supplying the volume and pressure required for domestic use and for fire protection.

Location and Sizing
Replacement projects have focused on replacing 2-inch galvanized water lines within the Maynard Road loop with either 4, 6 or 8-inch diameter ductile iron water mains. The new water mains are sized as recommended by the Town's Water System Master Plan. As new lines are installed, other deficiencies are corrected by adding water valves and fire hydrants according to Town design standards.
