Overview (Spring 2008)
Between Village North and NC 55 (Phase I)
Status - Phase 1A– Construction complete; Phase 1B - Construction complete; Phase 1C (bridge to link east, to Preston Village North) – Design complete and permitting under way with construction expected to begin Fall 2008.
The Town Council decided not to pursue art enhancement for this bridge. Instead, it directed Town staff to develop a comprehensive bridge analysis.
Description - Four lanes with a median, sidewalk on both sides and wide outside lanes to accommodate bicycles.
Extensions of Morrisville Parkway and Louis Stephens Drive will intersect at Carpenter Elementary School.
Town Budget - $3.37 million
From Davis Drive Westward to Preston Village North (Phase II)
Status - expected to begin Fall 2008.
Description - Four lanes with a 21-foot median, sidewalk on both sides and wide outside lanes to accommodate bicycles centered within 100-foot right-of-way. This quarter-mile segment will connect Davis Drive with the existing portion of Morrisville Parkway in Preston Village North.
Town Budget - $2.6 million.

From Carpenter Upchurch Road Westward to Green Level Church Road (Phase III)
Status - Alignment study complete (See alignments A, B, (B with Loops), C, D or see all alignments)
Alignment B with Loops is the preferred alignment - see a PDF or JPG.
Design and construction will occur in multiple phases as described at the Sept. 21, 2004 second workshop. Surveying and other field investigation begins early spring 2005 between the proposed I-540 crossing and Green Level Church Road.
Staff has been working with CSX Transportation and NCDOT to construct a new at-grade railroad crossing between Carpenter Upchurch Road and NC 55. The final details of this crossing are continuing to be worked out. Construction of this specific segment of Phase III is expected to begin Fall 2008.

Town of Cary construction coordinated with state Department of Transportation’s I-540 (Western Wake Expressway). Project scheduled for funding in 2012.
* As development occurs within this area it is anticipated that portions of this roadway that are within those developments will be constructed by developers.

Fiscal year 2004 - $200,000 for alignment study
Fiscal year 2005 - $2.9 million for design, permitting & easements
Fiscal year 2007 - $2.9 million for permitting and easements
Capital Improvements Plan - $8 million in fiscal year 2009 for construction
