Overview The Town of Cary plans to widen Kildaire Farm Road from Palace Green near Lochmere Golf Club 1.7 miles southward beyond Autumngate Drive near Mill Pond Village to relieve congestion. The project includes replacement of the bridge over Swift Creek.
Summer 2007 Update
Construction is scheduled to begin late August 2007 and take about 2 years to complete. CC Mangum is the contractor. This project will require periodic lane closures and traffic shifts through the duration of construction.
Details
The road will be five lanes without a median from 500 feet south of Autumngate Drive to Steep Bank Drive and four lanes with a median from Steep Bank Drive to Palace Green. The proposed right-of-way varies from 92 to 105 feet. Currently, it ranges from 60 to 100 feet.
Outside lanes will be wider to accommodate bicycles, and sidewalks will be installed on both sides. The sidewalk will be 10 feet wide between Lochmere Golf Cub and Hemlock Bluffs. Connector trails will be added for access to Swift Creek greenway.
Background
The Town has budgeted a total of $14,076,201 to widen Kildaire Farm Road from 1010 Road to Palace Green (Lochmere Golf Club Entrance). The state is contributing $1,231,201 toward bridge design and construction.
