Overview

The Town of Cary seeks to improve traffic flow in western Cary by widening a .9-mile segment of High House Road from N.C. 55 to just east of Carpenter Upchurch Road while adding a bridge over the CSX Railroad tracks. See a map. The road will be four lanes with a 16-foot raised median, sidewalks, and wide outside lanes to accommodate bicycles. The new bridge will have six lanes and feature Texas Concrete Railing.

May 2007 Update

Roadway and bridge construction on this one mile segment from NC 55 to just east of Carpenter Upchurch Road has been completed. This section of High House Road now consists of a four-lane, median-divided roadway with new sidewalks, curb and gutter, and widened lanes to accommodate bicycles. A six-lane bridge over the CSX railroad tracks with decorative concrete railing was also constructed to replace a two-lane bridge built during the 1960’s. An updated traffic signal is operating at the Carpenter Upchurch Road intersection.

Installation of new improved street lights will be installed along the new roadway during May and June. Some other minor work will be completed during this timeframe. Some lane closures can be expected.
