DAVIS DRIVE WIDENING PROJECT UPDATE
(April 9, 2001)
The project remains on schedule for beginning construction in the winter of 2001-2002 with completion about two years afterward.
Over the next couple of weeks, the project consultant will continue with design for grading and drainage and will pinpoint additional right-of-way and easement requirements. When the state Department of Transportation approves those plans, the Town will contact property owners to begin land acquisition. This process hopefully will begin near the end of May. At that time, Town staff will know more about how property owners will be affected and what might be done to lessen the impact.
Late last November, plans for the 25-percent stage of the project were sent to the Department of Transportation. Most of the comments were minor.
Citizens may schedule time to see plans by contacting Glen Harrell, Engineering Department, Town of Cary, P.O. Box 8005, Cary NC 27512-8005, by calling 460-4933, or by e-mailing gharrell@ci.cary.nc.us.
The northern limit of this Town of Cary project is Morrisville-Carpenter Road. The state Department of Transportation has begun a separate project to widen Davis Drive from Morrisville-Carpenter Road to N.C. 54. A public workshop on that section of Davis Drive will be on May 2 from 4-7 P.M. at Morrisville Town Hall. State transportation officials and their consultant, Ko and Associates, will attend for questions and comments.
