DAVIS DRIVE WIDENING PROJECT UPDATE
(May 15, 2000)
- The design project is proceeding
according to recommendations approved by Town Council as
included in the minutes from the April 27th
meeting. The minutes from this meeting can be accessed
via the Towns web page. (www.townofcary.org / Agenda/Minutes / Minutes of 2000 meetings
/ April 27th, 2000 / Old/New Business).
- The construction costs included in the
comparisons from the earlier TranSystems report were
based on a general CAMPO project estimator and were NOT
specific estimates for this project. Those numbers are
based on a generic 4.5 mi. corridor being constructed to
each of the alternative cross sections. The only
project-specific cost estimate for the Davis Drive
project was made for the Bond Referendum and that
estimate was $4.5M. Staff report DS00-191 indicates that
the 16 median adds approximately $1.4M (for a total
preliminary estimate of $5.9M).
- Improvements to the High House Rd.
intersection with Davis Drive will likely include some
re-alignment to eliminate the need for a split-phase
signal. Plans are preliminary and we are still working
with alternative alignments to minimize impacts. It is
likely that either the southeast or northwest quadrant of
the intersection will be impacted by any intersection
re-alignment solution.
We are continuing work on the preliminary
plans and plan to have a second Public Workshop near the middle
of June. At this workshop, we will be able to discuss impacts to
specific properties along the corridor, and begin to discuss ways
to mitigate these impacts.
