Overview
The Town of Cary is widening nearly 3.5 miles of Davis Drive to four lanes with a median from just south of Sherwood Forest Place to just north of Morrisville-Carpenter Road. Currently the width varies from two to five lanes.

Spring 2006 Update
The project is complete south of the CSX railroad. South of High House Road construction is complete except for the completion of sidewalk in areas where utilities have not yet been relocated.

North of High House Road:
·       >  All traffic lanes are open and in their final configuration.
·       >  The traffic signal at Hogan’s Valley Way is delayed pending acquisition of an easement for relocating the traffic controller cabinet.  
·       > The traffic signal at Morrisville Parkway is installed and in flash mode pending final approval from NCDOT.
·       >  The final pavement surface and final pavement markings will be installed beginning March 15. All remaining pavement work will be completed by   June 7, 2006.

Associated work at Morrisville-Carpenter Road –
·     > The traffic signal just south of Morrisville-Carpenter Road is the responsibility of the Morrisville development in the southeast quadrant of that intersection.
·     > The widening of Morrisville-Carpenter Road and final connections to Davis Drive are the responsibility of the Morrisville developments in the   northeast and southeast quadrants of that intersection.
·     >  NCDOT is scheduled to let the contract for widening Davis Drive north of Morrisville-Carpenter Road in July 2006.  Please refer to “Davis Drive  Widening – Northern Section” for more information.

More Details
The project includes a variable width median, curb and gutter, and sidewalks on both sides. The project includes wide outside lanes to accommodate bicycles north of High House Road. It includes new traffic signals at the Park Village Way, Preston Village Way and Morrisville Parkway intersections. The plan also includes changes to the existing signals at High House Road and Morrisville Carpenter Road.

The budget is $17,608,250. The N.C. Department of Transportation maintains the road.
