The Town is in the process of widening nearly a mile of N.C. 54/Chapel Hill Road to four lanes with a median from about 750 feet west of Northeast Maynard Road to Trinity Road to relieve congestion. Currently, the width varies from two to five lanes within 150 feet of existing right-of-way. Schedule The project is substantially complete, but motorists may notice intermittent lane closures in order to finish minor punch-list items. The project is slated to be complete by July 2007. Details The project includes curb and gutter, sidewalk and a 4-foot striped bicycle lane on both sides. The project also includes improvements at the Maynard Road intersection to allow for two left-turn lanes from Maynard Road eastbound onto N.C. 54/Chapel Hill Road. Budget - $5.9 million Russ Overton, P.E.
