Overview

The Town Council has approved an alignment for Northeast Cary Parkway, extending from North Harrison Avenue to Trinity Road. However, construction is not envisioned before 2016. The Town Council has directed that extension occur only if it is not feasible financially or physically to expand adjacent roads.

Background

In March 2002, representatives of major landowners, surrounding neighborhoods and others with a stake in the project began meeting with Town officials to compare alignment alternatives. Participants included representatives from SAS Institute; Weston Development; the Umstead Coalition; N.C. State University; the N.C. Department of Transportation; and the Trinity Woods, Medfield Estates and Royal Oaks subdivisions.

A public information exchange was held in June 2002 for feedback on the work group's ideas. Dublin Woods subdivision became part of the work group in July 2002. The Town Council approved an alignment with several conditions in August 2002.

Following adjustments that the council directed, the alignment was presented to the state Department of Transportation, the N.C. Division of Water Quality, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for preliminary review. The final alignment was presented to the Town Council in September 2003.
