Ad Hoc Technical Advisory Group
An ad hoc technical advisory group of open space professionals from the Triangle gathered in September, 2000, to discuss preservation issues and provide feedback on Town staff's approach to preserving open space in the Cary area. The advisory group included land conservation experts, officials from federal, state and county environmental and state resource agencies, planning academicians, and historic preservationists.
The group focused on "tools and techniques" - what would work best for Cary. Examples included purchase or transfer of development rights, zoning and regulatory controls, incentives, and cluster designs to conserve open space. The ad hoc group also discussed funding requirements and the complexity of implementing a preservation program.
