Ground broke in August 2001 for 21 townhomes that Jeff Fike Builders is building off South Walker Street just south of downtown. Prices range from about $105,000 to $124,000.
The two bedroom homes are 1,086 square feet, and the three bedroom homes have 1,257 square feet. All have 2½ bathrooms, a patio and outdoor storage. Some have brick fronts. The homes are within walking distance of the Cary Public Library, Town Hall, Herbert C. Young Community Center, Cary Elementary School, restaurants, shops and the site for the rail transit station that is planned.
The Town of Cary and Wake County are contributing money toward the development. Down payment assistance is available through a second mortgage of up to $7,143 for buyers that the county qualifies. By fall 2002, more than half of the units had been sold.
