Types of Affordable Senior Apartments
There are two types of affordable housing for seniors in Cary – subsidized and tax credit
properties. In each case, the property developers receive funding assistance to construct the apartments in exchange for agreeing to rent the units at affordable rates. There is a set income limit for seniors desiring to live in these units which can not be exceeded. These income limits are based on the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) median income for the area and is adjusted every few years.
Rent Amounts
For subsidized apartments, the rents are based on your total income with some allowances for medical expenses. For tax credit apartments, the rents are all the same but there is usually a minimum and a maximum income range set for which all seniors must qualify. Some apartments have an age limit for seniors while others are open to all seniors.
