PROJECT TITLE:   Old Apex Road Water Line Reinforcement

RESPONSIBLE DEPARTMENT:   Engineering

PROJECT FUNDING:   $243,000

FIRST YEAR ESTIMATED OPERATING COSTS:   None

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Old Apex Road Water Line Reinforcement project provides 8,200 linear feet of 12–inch water line along Old Apex Road between Cary Parkway and Maynard Road to reinforce existing waterlines in that area.  Total project cost is estimated to be $1,694,000.  The FY 2009 appropriation of $243,000 funds design and easement acquisition.  An additional $1,451,000 will be necessary in FY2010 for construction.

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION:

The Old Apex Road Water Line Reinforcement project provides additional water service capacity in order to meet periods of peak demand and high fire fighting flow.  The project also facilitates operation of existing storage tanks and near-term proposed tanks within the water system’s central pressure zone.  The project will improve service in the Town’s existing utility service area while compensating for higher service demands elsewhere in the utility system.
