PROJECT TITLE:   Morrisville Merger - Large Water Meter Replacements

RESPONSIBLE DEPARTMENT:   Public Works/Utilities

PROJECT FUNDING:   $200,000

FIRST YEAR ESTIMATED OPERATING COSTS:   None

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

This project provides for large water meter replacement within the Morrisville service area.  Under this program, water meters one-inch and larger are replaced.  Total cost for this project is estimated to be $251,360.  A total of $51,360 has been appropriated through FY 2008.  The FY 2009 appropriation of $200,000 will complete the replacement of these meters.

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION:

The Town of Cary and Town of Morrisville utility systems merged effective April 1, 2006.  As a tenet of the merger, Cary is responsible for managing the merged system.  Prior to the initiation of this project, Morrisville had no meter replacement program.  This project is expected to reduce unaccounted for water in the Morrisville area.  An increase in revenues related to water sales from larger meters is also anticipated.

PROJECT LOCATION:

This project will occur in various locations within the portion of the Town of Cary’s utility system that lies within the Town of Morrisville.
