PROJECT
DESCRIPTION: |
|
|
This project provides for the replacement of the
four original five million gallon/day finished water pump motors currently in
service at the Cary/ Apex Water Treatment Plant. The FY 2009 appropriation of $275,000 fully
supports this project with no additional funding requests anticipated. PROJECT
JUSTIFICATION: The
four finished water pump motors originally installed in 1993 at the Cary/Apex
Water Treatment Plant currently remain in service. The pumps affiliated with these motors were
upgraded in 2002 during the last plant expansion project. The motors, however, were maintained as
originally installed. Two of these
motors serve pumps for the central pressure zone and two serve the pumps for
the western pressure zone. All four
motors have experienced significant wear since 1993 and have extensive maintenance
histories. All four motors have also been
electrically rewound a minimum of three times since their installation in
1993. Replacement of the four original
motors allows staff to maintain the reliability of the water system while meeting
existing service levels for finished water pumping capacity. |
