Introductions: The commission members present at the meeting introduced themselves to the guests present at the meeting, Mr. Mike Ostrom of Cary High School Band, Ms. Missy Eide and Ms. Eleanor Ray. The guests in turn introduced themselves to the members.

Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer, Mr. William McCuiston, was attending a conference out of town. Barry further informed the members that the travel deposit refund from the Travel Agency was expected during the week of July 22nd. He further informed the members that the expected refund and the Association’s membership dues received to-date would put the Association’s bank balance between $2,400.00 and $2,500.00.

Laze Days: Missy Eide of La Farm Bakery thanked the commission for the opportunity to work with the commission to sell some of La Farm Bakery’s products at the August 24, 2002 Laze Daze. She further said that La Farm Bakery appreciates the opportunity to assist the Sister Cities Commission’s objectives towards raising funds as well as awareness for the Cary Sister Cities Association.

Both Ms Eide and Ms Ray went on to describe and commented on the samples of La Farm Bakery’s products they brought to the meeting. They further said that La Farm Bakery would assist the commission to set up the booth on the morning of Lazy Daze.

Barry then suggested that the Association should sell only 5 or 6 products instead of the wide range of La Farm Bakeries’ products.

It was discussed and agreed upon that the Association will pay La Farm Bakery 50% of the cost of goods up front (upon delivery and set up) and the balance of 50% after the Lazy Daze sales.

Barry made Ms Eide and Mr. Ray aware of the annual internship visits to Cary of culinary students from Le Touquet under the organization of Wake Tech. Ms Eide expressed interest in making La Farm Bakery available to the students as one of the establishments where the students can intern.

Members discussed the Association selling water during Lazy Daze, in addition to the La Farm Bakery’s products. Mary Lou Addor will check to see if the Association can get water to be donated by Le Bleu Water Company. The alternative to getting water donated to the association to be sold will be for the Association to purchase water from any of the wholesale stores.

Members volunteered for the times that they could be available to manage the Association’s booth at Lazy Daze on Saturday August 24th and the alternate day (Rain Day) of Sunday August 25th. Jinnie will make the schedule and email the members.

She expects this information to be available during the August meeting of the commission.

Cary High School Band: Mr. Mike Ostrom informed the members that he was at the meeting to re-establish and promote the band’s interest for 2004 trip to Meath. He informed the members that though tapes involving the band’s various performances have been sent to Meath, a positive response has not yet been received, nor has a contact or liaison person been established.

Mr. Mike Ostrom was encouraged to consider signing up and going on the Spring 2003 trip to Meath to obtain first hand information and also to establish communication links with regards to planning for the Bands 2004 trip.
