Minutes of 15 April 2003 Meeting

Present: Mary Lou Addor, Mary Brice, Jinnie Davis, Samuel Fudzie, Cricket Harrell, Ian Henshaw, Steve Morrison, Sarah Sheffield, Jack Smith (Council Liaison), Darrell Stover (Staff Liaison)

CALL TO ORDER: Steve Morrison called the meeting to order at 7:37 p.m.

special presentation: Karen Gray announced that April is Volunteer Appreciation Month in Cary . To celebrate the work of the volunteers on the Sister Cities Commission (SCC), the Town Council made cake and soft drinks available to commission members, as well as a formal proclamation of thanks.

Jack Smith joined the meeting later and expressed his personal pride in the efforts of the SCC.

election of officers: Steve noted that, according to its bylaws, the SCC must elect a vice chair and a secretary; Ian Henshaw and Jinnie Davis were willing to serve in those offices. Mary Lou Addor made a motion nominating Ian Henshaw as vice chair and Jinnie Davis as secretary, and Mary Brice seconded it.  Ian and Jinnie were unanimously elected as SCC vice chair and SCC secretary, respectively.

TEMPORARY ADJOURNMENT: Following Darrell Stover’s suggestion that the SCC and the Sister Cities Association meetings be held separately, a motion was made, seconded, and carried unanimously to adjourn the SCC meeting and convene the SCA meeting.

Meeting adjourned and reconvened at 10:00 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Mary Brice noted that changes are still needed in the draft minutes of March 20, 2003 . Steve also pointed out the correct spelling of “Chait.”  Mary will e-mail the corrected version to the commission for approval at the next meeting.

Ian mentioned that the minutes for December 2002 seem not to have been circulated or approved.  Samuel Fudzie and Mary Lou will check on the status of those minutes.

ADJOURNMENT: Sarah Sheffield made a motion to adjourn the meeting, and second was provided by Jinnie Davis.
