Monthly Activity Report

Administration

  • Continued work on campus master plan and floor plans for future buildings
  • Continued planning for 2001 Council/Staff Retreat
  • Started work on FY 2002 budget
  • Conducted meetings with staff from former divisions as part of reorganization
  • Preparing for work session with Town Council on new roads APF & transportation development fees
  • Received preliminary cost estimates related to involuntary annexation study

Growth Management & Policy

  • Continued development of the Growth Management web site, including preparing detailed summaries and updates on all 37 implementation tasks from the Growth Management Plan.
  • Continued development of Point Rating System, including coordinating 4 staff work teams, consolidating draft final criteria and reviewing draft ordinance prepared by Clarion consultants.
  • Initiated new Planning Dept Web Team to reorganize Planning and Development Services home page to reflect new organization and also to move towards more subject-based content with more effective distribution of information and on-line customer service capabilities.
  • Began meetings with Council on Redistricting for 2001 elections.
  • Provided assistance to the Land Use & Transportation Division on Schools data calculations and preparation of the Open Space Plan.

Land Use & Transportation

  • Attended Wake County Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnership annual action plan meeting to provide investment opportunities for housing and infrastructure in Cary.
  • Attended the Neighborhood Revitalization Training Institute in New Orleans.
  • Met with two development groups interested in Building affordable housing in Cary.
  • Provided cost projections for the affordable housing budget for the 2002 capital improvement budget and 10-year capital improvement plan.
  • Attended the Wake Housing Resource Center planning team meeting in the WHRC facility in downtown Raleigh.

Zoning Administration & Enforcement

  • Received 1 new planned unit development application
  • Continued review of the draft UDO (currently reviewing Chapter 6)
  • Worked with consultant in preparing a draft sign ordinance for the Town Center
  • Prepared 1 amendment to the UDO
  • Continued preparing Uniform Sign Plans for the Web and Mapinfo
  • Continued scanning the 2000 Sign permits for digital review
  • Prepared a written process for review of residential setbacks
  • Zoning Code Enforcement:
    • Issued 7 zoning verification and site inspection letters.
    • Issued 4 temporary use permits.
    • Received 16 sign permit applications.
    • Removed approximately 30 illegal temporary signs.
    • Received 20 zoning violations which include:
  • 1 cases of abandoned, junk or nuisance vehicles.
  • 7 cases of illegal signs (neon, ground, and construction).
  • 4 cases of site plan violations.
  • 1 case of home occupation violation.
  • 3 cases of dumpster screening violations.
  • 2 cases of illegal use of property.
  • 0 fence violations (swimming pool).
  • 2 family of four violations.
  • 0 other violations.
