Monthly Activity Report
January 2001

Administration

  • Continued planning for 2001 Council/Staff Retreat
  • Made progress on completing 2002 budget
  • Held mini-staff retreat on Department Expectations and formation of a mission statement.
  • Completed draft adequate public facilities for roads ordinance and preliminary costs for developing new transportation development fees.
  • Preparing recommendations on priority areas for annexation and related costs based upon the involuntary annexation study to be presented at February’s Council/Staff Retreat
  • Reorganized four positions into a sub-section of the Zoning Division to deal comprehensively with Zoning Compliance during and after development occurs.

 

Growth Management & Policy

  • Continued development of Point Rating System, including coordinating 5 staff work teams, finalizing draft final criteria and preparing comments on draft ordinance prepared by Clarion consultants.
  • Continued work with the Planning Dept Web Team and with Internal Town Web Team on reorganizing the Planning Dept web pages and coordinating with Town changes slated for June.
  • Finished meetings with Council on Redistricting for 2001 elections, prepared summary goals/objectives from the meetings and distributed to Council for feedback. Initiated data collection phase of redistricting.
  • Provided assistance to the Land Use & Transportation Division on Schools data calculations.
  • Begun "Threat of Loss Analysis" (i.e. a GIS-based identification and analysis of high growth threat areas) for the Open Space Plan being prepared by the Land Use and Transportation Division.
  • Continued work on developing detailed population and employment figures and projections for the Fiscal Impact Analysis being prepared by Tischler and Associates.

 

Land Use & Transportation

  • Met with Gregg Warren and Yolanda Winstead of DHIC and Cliff Zinner of R&D Construction to discuss several affordable housing opportunities in Cary.
  • Attended the grand opening of the Wake Housing Resource Center.
  • Helped the Cary Chamber of Commerce with the mock Town Council session for the Youth Leadership Cary Program.
  • Participated in the initial planning of an "affordable housing home buyers fair" to be conducted in Cary in June, under the leadership of Saint Michael’s Social Action Committee.
  • Participated in two meetings about the White Oak PUD.

 

Zoning Administration & Enforcement

  • Began two amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO)
  • Continued to work with the consultant on drafting sign regulations for the Town Center
  • Held a meeting with the UDO Update Advisory Committee to review the 1st installment (Chapters 1-3) of the draft UDO
  • Completed staff comments on the 2nd installment (Chapters 4-6) of the draft UDO
  • Received five zoning verification letter requests
  • Received 25 sign permit applications
  • Received 32 violations, which consisted of the following:
  • 20 illegal sign violations
  • 2 Home Occupation violations
  • 1 Family of Four violation
  • 3 abandoned vehicle violations
  • 2 site plan violations
  • 2 illegal use in zone violations
  • 2 dumpster violations
