A.         Call to Order – Carol Aupperle, Chair

           

B.         Roll Call

·         Noting those absent

Carl Regutti; Mathias Bishop; Ginger Hayes

 

·         Noting a quorum is present

Quorum was present at 6:20 pm

 

C.         Adoption of Agenda

·         Approval of DRAFT agenda

ACTION:  Smythe Richbourg made a motion to approve the agenda.  Pat Hudson seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

D.         Minutes

·         Approval of DRAFT 16 May 2007 minutes

ACTION:  Eric Forehand made a motion to approve the May 16, 2007 minutes.  Pat Hudson seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

E.         New Business

·         Review artwork placement West Regional Library – CVA

o        Cary Visual Art (CVA) is working with the West Regional Library on phase 1 of placing public art at the library.

o        Phase 1 is seating for the courtyard area.  The seats would be made of concert with the tops being smooth.  On top of the seats would be an opportunity for artwork designs embedded into the terrazzo.

o        The public will have an opportunity to make suggestions on what they would like to see on the seats.

ACTION:  Smythe Richbourg made a motion to approve the public art exterior seating design for the of the West Regional Library.  Pat Hudson seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

·         West Regional Library Funding Request

o        The Board discussed the letter funding request from Terri Luke, Regional Library Supervisor for West Regional Library.

o        The Board questioned if the Town had a funding program establish for item of this nature.  At this time, the Town does not have funding program.

ACTION:  Ginger Castle made a motion to decline the opportunity to fund phase 2 and 3 of the West Regional Library because the Town does not a funding program established.  Smythe Richbourg seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

F.         Old Business

·         Walnut Street Park – Update

o        The sewer lines are needing to be addressed, before placing the documents out to bid.

 

·         US 1/64 Pedestrian Greenway bridge – Update

o        The artist Michael Stutz is currently working with the engineer that designed the bridge to develop a method to attach artwork.

 

·         Old Cary Elementary School – Update

o        Pat Hudson is chairing the artist review panel on this project.  She explained the first meeting went well.  The panel selected two finalists, Jim Hirschfield and Sonya Ishii (team) and Norie Sota to interview.  There were two alternates selected Thomas Sayre and Susan Zoccola.

o        Denise Dickens presented background on each artist.

o        The interviews will be on July 17, 2007 from 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm.

 

·         Town Hall Campus – Update

o        Staff is still talking with Catherine Widgery.  Ms. Widgery would like to come see the complete Town Hall Campus project to get ideas.  Funding to bring Catherine to Cary would need to come from the project’s budget.

o        Lyman Collins will have more information at a later meeting.

 

·         Downtown Streetscape – Update

o        Elizabeth Conner has been in town one week a month working on this project. 

o        Staff distributed a handout from Ms. Conner on preliminary integrated artwork concepts.

o        There will be a public meeting on July 17, 2007 from 6pm – 8pm at the Old Cary Elementary School.  The meeting will have two sections – Old Cary Elementary and Streetscapes.

o        Council women Dorrel asked about the historic district and if the artist was looking into the background on Cary.  Ms. Dorrel suggested Ms. Conner view or meet with Brent Miller because he has a PowerPoint presentation that shows the history of Cary.

 

·         Review current PAAB Goals

o        Staff suggested having a speakers bureau that the Board could inform staff on when a meeting was taking place and staff or the Board could attend the meeting to talk about public art.

 

G.         Reports from Representative Organizations

·         Cary Visual Art (CVA) – Pat Hudson

o        The Take a Seat project has chairs located throughout the Town.

o        The Art Ball is scheduled for November 2007

 

·         Fine Arts League of Cary (FALC) – Carl Regutti

o        No report at this time.

 

·         Other Organizations

 

H.         Public Speaks Out (opportunity for guests and members to address Board – limit 5 minutes per                 speaker)

o        Carol Aupperle highlighted several articles that have been in the paper.

 

I.          Adjourn

o        Smythe Richbourg made a motion for the meeting to adjourn at 7:25pm.
