Review Work Plan ‘08
v
The Public Art Master Plan directs staff to include an
Annual Work Plan as part of their normal budget process and annual Capital
Improvement Budget.
v
Discussed the layout of the work plan and each project listed
for FY ’07-’08.
v
The Annual Work Plan will included the project description,
budget public art design; budget construction; conceptual approach; artist
selection process; and projected time-table
v

Discuss Work Plan ‘09

May - preliminary meetings with Town staff to discuss the FY
’09 Capital Improvement Budget projects.

June-July - develop public art opportunities descriptions.

August – Public Art Advisory Board prioritize projects.

The Alston Activity Center Conceptual Plan requires that
each developer provide streetscapes elements such as gateway features and
pedestrian oriented features. Since public
art is an important distinguishing feature of this plan staff has provided an
overlay of the streetscape requirements and public art opportunities within the
Alston Activity Center Concept Plan.

Staff will be meeting next week with representatives of the
v
There is an opportunity within the overlay for developers to
accomplish both goals of this plan.
Staff will encourage firms to be thinking of potential streetscape
amenities and art work early on in the design process.

with the architect firm, Clearscapes.

A Call to Artist
was sent to twenty-two artists with the deadline set for the 31 May.

Artist Selection
Panel will review the artists’ applications on June 13 and conduct interviews on
July 17.

The first public
meeting is scheduled for evening

Focus Group
meetings will take place in mid-June with the Cultural Arts Committee serving
as the lead.

The design
concept will go to Council in October.
v
Pat Hudson will
chair the Selection Committee and Ginger Hayes agreed to serve on the
committee, as well.

asked if they could be notified when she would be doing another “Reverse
Walking Tour” of downtown.

Spring Daze –
follow up
v The board
expressed gratitude to Town staff and David Lindquist for their outstanding
work, and the board was particularly appreciative of the fact that staff
handled all cleanup, so volunteers didn't have to worry about board materials
after 5 pm.
v Smythe Richbourg asked if a speaker’s bureau could be
put in place to discuss public art at other events. Staff explained this would be something that
the board would have contacts in the community with groups needing speakers and
that staff could provide a presentation of current Town projects.

The artworks were
exhibited at the Bond Park Boat House during Spring Daze and then at the Cary
Towne Center Mall. Over the next week,
the artworks will be moved to locations through out

assistance is needed to help with moving the artworks from the Cary Towne
Center Mall to other locations within

Black Creek
Greenway (including corner site at Maynard and

CVA will pursue a
tile mosaic or other low—relief artwork for the corner of NW Maynard and Chapel
Hill Road, the nearby pedestrian underpass, and the Black Creek greenway
pedestrian bridge along Maynard.

As the first step
in the artist selection process, CVA will issue an invitational RFQ call to
artists.

Alexan Panther
Creek Apartments at

CVA is working on
a consulting basis with TCR Carolina Properties, Inc. to incorporate public art
into the Alexan Panther Creek Apartments development.

CVA will soon
transition to reviewing new opportunities for public art on a semiannual
basis. The Discovery Committee has
