·         Downtown Cary Streetscape Plan – report on survey results

v      Public Art Advisory Board survey from Spring Daze - Comment Cards

v      The Board had concerns with several issues not being addressed.

v      Denise Dickens met the planners on this project to discuss that having art incorporated and an artist on board early would in turn use the budget more wisely to accomplish all of the goals.

v      The Board discussed their top three items they would like to see public art integrated into the Streetscapes plan.

v      A suggestion was made to identify topics to place the items under – Street Furniture: benches, tree guards, trash cans, lighting, bus shelters; Traffic Management: paving (crosswalks), sidewalks; Signage – gateways, way finding elements.

ACTION:  Julia Kunkel Morrison recommended that the downtown Streetscape plan be viewed as an opportunity for public art to be integrated and permeate the overall design of the streetscapes.  The Public Art Master Plan specifically identifies our Town Center as an important focus area for public art.  Infrastructure development and the design should be guided by the principals of public art as identified in the Public Art Master Plan and be stylistically cohesive.  The Public Art Advisory Board identified the following priority areas:

      Street Furniture: benches, tree guards, trash cans, lighting, bus                            shelters;

      Traffic Management: paving (crosswalks), sidewalks;

      Signage – gateways, way finding elements.

Ginger Hayes seconded; the motion passed unanimously.

v      The goals will be posted at each meeting, so that the Board can identify ways to take action on a specific goal and see results.
