A.         Call to Order – Carol Aupperle, Chair

            The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m.

 

B.         Minutes

·         March 15, 2006

Ginger Hayes made a motion to accept the March minutes.  Pat Hudson seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

C.         New Business

·         Town Center District and Cultural Center Study

The consultants are working on the final documents of the plan based on the positive response Town Council gave the plan at the March meeting and public meeting.  While Council has not formally adopted the plan they have not recommended any major changes to the recommendations as presented.  Council will take final action in June for the Streetscape Plan and the Town Center District and Cultural Center Study.

 

·         Downtown Cary Streetscapes Plan - report

v      Wednesday, April 26 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (drop-in) at the Old Cary Elementary School.

v      Make plans to share your comments at the Town of Cary’s workshop on the future downtown Cary streetscapes.

v      Your input at this meeting is key, as it will help guide final revisions to the DRAFT Plan.

v      Participants will be able to view the draft and share thoughts, opinions, and suggestions.

 

D.         Old Business

·         US 1/64 Pedestrian Bridge

v      Update

Ø       The 5 finalists have been contacted.

Ø       The first 3 finalists will be interviewed on June 16, 2006.

Ø       The second 2 finalists will be interviewed on June 22, 2006.

Ø       Models will be on display at Town Hall  and other locations for a public commit period.

Ø       Final recommendations will come back to this Board.

 

 

·         Cary Dog Park

v      Update

Ø       The project was re-opened to a broader geographic search.

Ø       There have been 5 artists to apply, with a deadline of May 1, 2007.

 

·         Walnut Street Park

v      Update

Ø       This will be a limited call to artists.

Ø       Working as part of a design team will be appealing to artists.

Ø       The artist selection process will began on May 31, 2007 and will be a public meeting.

Ø       After an initial review of submissions, 2 or 3 artists will be interviewed.

Ø       Ginger Hayes will chair this committee.

 

·         Ginger Hayes – report on CVA Committee

v      Update

Ø       CVA will meet Thursday, April 20, 2007.

Ø       No action since the March meeting.

 

·         Spring Daze

v      Update

Ø       Sign up for volunteering at the PAAB booth at Spring Daze.

 

·         Review Goals for Public Art Advisory Board (PAAB) 2006-2007

v      Review Stated Goals listed in 15 March 2006 minutes

Ø       Number 3 was changed to read:  Continue to seek opportunities to extend Community outreach and education about public art.

Ø       Number 4 was changed to read: Continue to develop partnerships with CVA and other public/private partners.

 

ACTION:  Julia Kunkel Morrison made a motion that the Public Art Advisory Board accepts the seven goals with corrections to number 3 & 4.  Pat Hudson seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

 

E.         Reports from Representative Organizations

·         Cary Visual Arts – Pat Hudson

Stone Creek Village

v      CVA is currently reviewing prospective artists for the project.

v      Six goals have been established by CVA.

Temporary Exhibitions

v      All artworks are available for sale.

v      An exhibition brochure is being produced to promote the current temporary exhibition.

v      Exhibition signage has been ordered and will be in place by the beginning of next week.

v      Brian Hibbard has decided to change the name of Horse #3, currently on display at the Herb Young Community Center to “Brownie” after Herb Young’s horse when he was a child.

v      CVA is developing a themed artwork exhibition, similar to the Raleigh Red Wolves Campaign.

Spring Daze Arts and Crafts Festival

v      CVA is sponsoring a children’s activity in which participants will be encouraged to create their own found object/scrap-art sculptures.

Wishing Well Young Artists Exhibit at WakeMed Cary Hospital

v      The ongoing exhibition currently features artwork by students at Farmington Woods Elementary School.

 

·         Fine Arts League of Cary – Ella Williams

v      The FALC 12th Annual Art Exhibit Reception was a great success.

v      The Fine Arts League of Cary invites members and the public to the first annual FALC FAIR April 27, 7:30 pm at JHAC.  The evening will have food, games, raffles and prizes.  To encourage attendees to engage with their time and talents.

v      The Salon de Refuse Exhibit imitating a French impressionistic event has been scheduled at the Cary Senior Center on April 13th. The reception and take down of the show will be May 19th.

v      The FALC Office will host an Office Open House and Warming Party scheduled for June 4th at 875 Walnut St. across from the Cary High School.

v      The May monthly art education program, Thursday May 25 at 7:30 is to be a critique of artwork by Connie Belton.
