complied responses to the Board members. Lyman
Collins feels the comments so far are extremely good.
Marla Dorrel
asked if the target number for responses would be 200 – 250.
Lyman did not feel this would be
a problem to meet. He feels that Lazy Daze will bring in at least 100 responses.
Carl Regutti asked if any
of the Board members learned anything at the Koka Booth

event. Julia
Kunkel Morrison said she gave people the opportunity to look at
the model and then approached them to see
if they had questions. Nancy
distributed to talking points to the Board members that would be helpful.
She
also suggested referring to the display board and using the text as a guide
while discussing. Marla felt
having the column on-site helps put the size into perspective for the public.

POTENTIAL
NEW PROJECTS
Nancy Novell
explained the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources staff is in the process
of discussing
new projects where public could be
introduced. Lyman Collins explained
it is an overall Town goal for greenways
to be connected.
A pedestrian bridge will be constructed over Hwy 1/64, connecting
bridge structure and a map of Greenway
Crossings/Public Art Opportunities. Carol
Aupperle asked how art could
be incorporated into this space.
Lyman explained this would be in the hands of the artist and that the
Town
would issue a Call to Artists.
He said
of ideas. Barbara Petty did not feel we should restrict ourselves and suggested we
start fresh with artists’
ideas. Carol
asked what staff needed from the Board.
Lyman explained Council knows about the bridge,
but the Board needs to decide if this is an opportunity to
recommend the incorporation public art into the
pedestrian bridge.
Carol felt this would open up a new audience for
public art. Lyman explained there
are restrictions, but bids will go out in
October. Lyman explained the Board
would need to have two
representatives for an Artist Selection Committee to assist with this project.
Barbara Petty volunteered
to chair the committee and Luan Harmeson agreed
to co-chair.
ACTION: Julia Kunkel
Morrison made a motion that the Board endorse the idea of having public art
included in
the pedestrian bridge at HWY 1/64.
Carl Regutti seconded. The
motion passed. unanimously.
Greenway
Tunnels
Nancy Novell asked the Board if staff should look into the greenway tunnels
and research for next
year’s budget. Carol Aupperle felt this would open up a variety of options for the
community and schools.
Carl Regutti thought
this would be a perfect opportunity for
local artists to be showcased.
Lyman Collins
explained an artist could work with the citizens to help with a design.
The Board felt there would be a
variety of possibilities with the
greenway tunnels.
Meril Yeske thought it would be a great educational
experience.
Barbara Petty asked if an overall theme would be appropriate. Lyman
suggested a
comprehensive approach to the greenways could be discussed
with guidelines and
structure considered.
He stated that there might be more buy in from citizens if
each neighborhood established their own themes
to reflect their neighborhood. The majority of Board Members felt a theme for each project would work,
but
not to limit the creativity of artists and citizens working together.
that schools could be involved, and that artists could help define the process.
Carl stated that it would
be good to let the community know that these things
are coming along so that the community can get
excited about it.
ACTION:
Carl Regutti made a motion to proceed with the concept of developing
public art for
greenway underpasses and overpasses
in the system.
Julia Kunkel Morrison seconded the motion.
Motion
passed unanimously.
